• 2 cups of all-purpose flour
• 2 cups of lukewarm water
• 3/4 cup of salt
• 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar
• 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

All About Play-Doh Made At Home – 5 Easy Steps

1. Mix together the dry ingredients of flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large pot. Add the warm water and oil to the dry ingredients. If you plan to make more than one color you can add the food coloring after the playdough has cooled, you can add the color in the pot for just one color.
2. Cook over medium heat, continue stirring until the dough has thickened and forms into a ball. Remove from heat and then place onto wax paper. Allow the dough ball to cool until it is cool enough to handle, then knead the dough until it is smooth.
3. You can now divide them into smaller balls if you plan to make different colors. Add the smaller balls with a few drops of food coloring into the plastic zip-lock bags and knead the dough inside the bags (food coloring will stain your hands) until the coloring is evenly distributed throughout the dough. Add one or two more drops of food coloring to each bag for a brighter color.
4. When you finish kneading the dough inside of the plastic bags it is ready to be played with.
5. Your homemade playdough will last about 3 months if stored in air-tight zip-lock bags or containers. Over time your playdough will begin to harden and dry as the water evaporates. Easily restore your playdough by adding a little water and kneading it until you achieve the desired consistency.
